Everyone needs a set of core values or principles to live by, otherwise we’d just drift along without a rudder to help guide us from knowing right from wrong or good from bad. When we were little, we may have learned the Golden Rule, which emanates from the Bible, Chapter 7 of the Gospel of Matthew: “So, in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.”

It's long past time that we think through and reiterate the core values or principles of how we would like our governments, federal, state, and local to operate. Year after year our governments, especially the federal government, just keeps growing. It integrates itself more and more into our lives, telling us what we can and can’t do, how to act and even what to think. Since it happens little by little, we don’t push back but accept it. However, just like cancer, before we know it, it can take all of us down.

Below are listed Ten Core Principles of American Governance. Of course, many will disagree with some of these assertions, or suggest others to add. That’s great as long as we’re thinking about and discussing how we wish to be governed.
